Trails at Keweenaw Land Trust Nature Areas, presentation by Nathan Miller. From Lightfoot Bay and the Paavola Wetlands to Mantiou Island and beyond, the Keweenaw Land Trust has nature areas open year-round to the public for low-impact recreation. These protected lands provide opportunity to explore forested areas, traditional farms, rolling dunes, wetlands, and exposed bedrock while rock hounding, snowshoeing, hiking, picnicing, and more ! Join Nathan Miller, KLT Project Coordinator, as he conducts a photographic tour of KT's sites; learn their history and special features, and come away with a list of special places to visit with your family and friends.

Folk Poet Eelu Kiviranta, Immigrant Rascal, presentation and book signing by Lillian Lehto. Eelu Kiviranta, Finnish immigrant farmer, and Upper Peninsula resident documented his life and thoughts through poetry, starting at an early age. Kiviranta's poems include reflections on politics, social commentary, description of early life in Finland, times served in the Finnish army, and observations of immigrant life in the Copper Country. His poetry has been collected and translated into the book, A Rascal's Craft: Musings of a Finnish-American Immigrant, by his granddaughter, Lillian Lehto. Join Mrs. Lehto for a presentation and a reading from this collection and hear reflections on early 20th century life through the voice of a Finnish immigrant.
Books will be available for sale at the program, with proceeds going to benefit efforts of the Friends of the Calumet Public Library.
