Calumet High School’s JROTC program performs well at Upper Midwest Challenge and JLAB

One of the oldest in the nation, Calumet High School’s JROTC (Junior Reserve Officer Training Corp) program—the North Star Battalion—began in 1917 and has continued to grow and see success ever since. JROTC provides an inclusive environment for high school students to gain self-confidence, practice leadership skills, and become overall better citizens while serving their community.

Led by Major Michael Farley and First Sergeant Mark Powell, 43 JROTC students made the trip to St. Paul, MN on February 4th to compete against 12 other school JROTC teams. The competition consisted of Drill, Rifle Marksmanship, Knowledge Bowl, Physical Training, Color Guard and Knockout drill. Special congratulations to the Rifle Team that finished 2nd overall, and Heidi Oja and Melody Woods for earning medals in the Knockout drill.

Additionally, the North Star Battalion’s JLAB Academic Team has again advanced to the JROTC National Academic Bowl Championship to be held in Washington DC June 23-27, 2023. We wish the JLAB team the very best in preparation for the National Championship.
